Komodo Village, Indonesia
> I wanted to swim with manta rays for my 40th birthday, and Komodo National Park was one of the places that came up as having likely sightings in August, so off I went to see them!
They were amazing. Magical. But the part of the trip that was the most memorable was actually the eco village on Komodo Island, inhabited by the people in the photos below, in their unique stilted houses that are designed to avoid Komodo dragon visits at night.
The locals were friendly, the kids were full of joy, and it was a privilege to have a look at everyday life in such a remote part of the world.
